A Generation Primed for Renewal
A note from Craig.
I’m keeping it short this week, and this is why. Instead of writing a bunch of stuff myself, I’m going to point you to something someone else wrote, and ask you to read it. And I know you’re tempted to just skip over this. But I really think you’ll be encouraged by what you read:
If you don’t know the terminology around generations, “Gen Z” describes people born roughly between 1997 and 2012. Those are your 11-26 year olds. Up until now, it’s been a challenging demographic for the church. This article describes some of that. But I absolutely love how the article is framed: Gen Z’s are primed for spiritual renewal. The deep desire for community, for authenticity, for humility, for peace, are ultimately to be found in Jesus. There may be some initial signals that people in this generation are turning to Christ.
What can you do to contribute to this spiritual renewal? Last Saturday we held a Thanksgiving Dinner where people across the generations ate, worshipped, and played together. We continue to make space for events like that so that Christ-centred community can be experienced by those who desperately need it. This coming Sunday night we’ll have another Parent Equipping Night, where parents can grow together in how they raise their kids to follow Jesus. Matt, our new Director of Student Ministry, has begun a worship and prayer time on Tuesday mornings at 6:30am where we are praying for our teens. We’d love to have more people helping out on Sunday mornings with kids’ ministry and pre-teen ministry (think about the last point in that article you all definitely read, which is about mentoring).
There are opportunities all around to see God work in these emerging generations- let’s make the most of them!
